Published November 3, 2015

Thirteen University of Illinois Agriculture Education majors competed in the Alpha Tau Alpha (ATA) National Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky during the week of October 28-31, 2015. The Parliamentary Procedure team took top honors at the competition. Individually, Morgan Doggett was awarded Champion Secretary. Members of the team were: Clayton Carley, Harley Carlson, Morgan Doggett, Kaity Spangler, and Treavor Taylor.

The National Agricultural Education Debate team also claimed the top prize in their area of competition.  The debate prompt for this year was, “A nationwide moratorium on new agricultural education programs or expansions of existing programs should be implemented and kept in place until the supply of agriculture teachers is sufficient to meet or exceed the demand for existing programs.” Members of the debate team are divided into two categories to discuss the pro and con stances on the issue. Members of that team were: Morgan Doggett, Willow Krumwiede, Molly Novotney, and Adam Rosentreter.

The University of Illinois Alpha Tau Alpha Chapter received National Runner-up honors in the Program of Excellence (POE) competition. POE judges evaluate the ATA Chapter’s contributions to professional development, community service, fellowship, and fundraising throughout the year.
