The University of Illinois cordially invites you to the 2011 Greenhand and Student Leaders Conference. The conference will be held in Urbana on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 with check-in beginning at 4:45 pm in room 250 of the National Soybean Research Center on 1101 W. Peabody Drive. The opening sessions will begin at 5:40 pm (early check-in) and 6:00 pm. The Conference will conclude at 8:30 pm.
Conference Highlights:
Door Prizes! Dinner! Jacob Meisner's Keynote! Conference T-Shirt!
Greenhand Workshops - "Leadership...The Odyssey!" This rotation of workshops will focus on leadership as the ultimate voyage towards success. Geared toward first-year members, the workshops will prove to be not only informative, but fun and interactive. Developed and presented by several former state and national FFA officers, and outstanding student leaders at the University of Illinois, attendees will definitively leave the conference motivated to start the year on the right foot. The conference has been designed with more workshop offerings so that each session will have fewer participants, which means more individualized attention for your students.
Student Leader Workshop - "Agriculture is..." Part of being a student leader is knowing how to articulate the benefits of agricultural education to the local community and why it is important that students continue to learn about agriculture. This hands-on training session will go step by step with your student leaders on how to develop a comprehensive campaign that engages the community and sends a positive message about the benefits of the local program. As part of the experiential learning approach, participants will also participate in the UIUC Ag Education Program Open House where they can see the principles taught in the workshop in action. This is a "must-attend" for all upper class student leaders!
Advisor's Session - Special meal sponsored by the Office of Academic Programs in the College of ACES along with an overview of the new and improved Agricultural Leadership and Science Education undergraduate major. In addition, we will be offering a training session on "Pre-service Teacher Supervision in Agriculture Education" for all teachers interested in serving as a cooperating teacher for the Agricultural Education Program at the University of Illinois. Starting January 2012, only teachers who have gone through this training will be considered for hosting a student teaching intern (other sessions will be offered as opportunities present themselves). For those who attended last year, we will have an ag teacher's resources workshop conducted by FCAE.
