Shelby Carlson

Class of 2018
From Altona, Illinois
Interned at Communication Intern at Waste Commission of Scott County

Shelby Carlson grew up in rural Illinois where she gained an appreciation for agriculture. She knew was a young age she wanted to spread the word of agriculture to those both in and out of the industry. She graduated from Western Illinois University-Quad Cities in 2016 with a degree in Communication. Shelby feels a master’s degree in Agriculture Leadership Education will offer her an opportunity to expand her skills to become a better advocate for agriculture.

While in high school, Shelby was incredibly involved in 4-H and FFA. These opportunities allowed her to gain leadership skills which she is excited to improve upon during the course of her program. Shelby encourages all students to, “Never pass up the chance to have a conversation with someone. They will teach you something and you will get a chance to do the same. That is how your passion is shared.”
