Interned at Unit 22 University of Illinois Extension; ASAS Animal Smart Website Designer
Samantha grew up heavily involved in 4-H, and joined FFA her senior year of high school when the program started. Arriving at the University of Illinois, she was an undeclared major who originally wanted to pursue a career in veterinarian science. After a year on campus, Samantha realized how little fellow students were aware of agriculture, and soon found her passion in agricultural education.
Samantha is involved in both her social sorority Phi Sigma Sigma, and is a member of the Marching Illini Color Guard. She has interned with the Unit 22 University of Illinois Extension office back in her home county, and is currently interning with ASAS web designing the Animal Smart website. In the spring of 2016, she spent her semester abroad at the University College Dublin as an exchange student studying both animal science and horticulture. She said this experience opened her mind to new perspectives on agriculture, as well as a new found love for travel.
Samantha feels the College of ACES truly feels like a family, as she has found her home away from home at the University of Illinois. She firmly believes that being an Illini has changed her for the better, as the faculty and students push each other to be the best version of themselves. Advice she wishes to give to incoming students is get involved! "Your four years here will fly by, and you want to make the most of them socially, personally, and professionally. These four years can make or break you, so be sure to keep your head up, always take new opportunities, and bleed orange and blue.”
