Kirk Builta
From Mahomet, Illinois
Executive Director, Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation

Kirk Builta graduated from the University of Illinois in 2007 with a degree in Agricultural Education. He currently holds the role of Executive Director of the Champaign County Farm Bureau Foundation.  Kirk tells us that the goal of the CCFB Foundation is to provide educational opportunities that impact the future of the food and agricultural industry. Through the Earth Partners Ag in the Classroom program, and the Foundation’s Scholarships and Leadership Development Grants, Kirk and the CCFB Foundation are providing a much needed link to agricultural education.

Kirk tells us what he enjoys most about his position is watching agricultural leaders grow and become active leaders in the industry. “I’m proud to connect college-bound students pursuing a degree in agriculture with individual donors and corporate partners who believe in the future of agriculture. Working together we can help students realize their dream of a college education while preparing them to lead our industry after graduation.”

As an Agricultural Education graduate, Kirk feels he truly took advantage of the slogan, ‘It’s What You Make It!’ by pursuing a variety of career opportunities. “My time at the University of Illinois gave me the knowledge and experience to participate in nearly every facet of the agricultural industry. My degree in Agricultural Education gave me the tools necessary to put my knowledge to work in real-life situations.”

Kirk says he chose the University of Illinois because it provided him with the ability to receive an education in and out of the classroom, and around the globe. “Throughout campus you receive a first-class education in what at times can feel like a small Midwestern setting. The opportunities to further your education are endless through student organizations and access to study abroad programs and internship or career opportunities.” While attending the University of Illinois, he was a member of the FarmHouse Fraternity, chairperson for the ACES Student Advancement Committee, member of ACES Student Council, participated in the International Business Immersion Program in New Zealand in 2006, served as Student Representative for the College of ACES Alumni Board, was a member of the Alpha Tau Alpha Ag Education Honorary Fraternity, and a Collegiate FFA member.
