Leadership and Organizational Development Program Officer
After graduating with her bachelor’s degree in 2000 from Texas A&M University, Annie Hernandez continued her education at the University of Illinois by completing her Master’s degree in Agricultural Education in 2002. During her two years at the University, Hernandez’s connections allowed her to “more quickly navigate and build relationships in the central Illinois area. The knowledge I gained from coursework in community and program development and evaluation has been critical to my day-to-day work. I use my lesson planning for every training or convening I hold.”
Currently, Hernandez is using her degree as the Director of Youth Development for the Frieda C. Fox Family Foundation based in Los Angeles. Working at home, she leads the national Youth Philanthropy Connect effort on their behalf working with youth involved in their family philanthropy and the adults who support them. Annie also works with the youth of the Fox family to build their philanthropic skills.
Previously, she worked for the Lumpkin Family Foundation in Mattoon, IL leading a nonprofit network and online resource center for Illinois and assisting with other grant efforts. Annie is furthering her education and pursuing a Ph.D. in Leadership and Change from Antioch University.
Since graduation, she has also had the opportunity to volunteer and guest lecture or participate in programs at the University of Illinois. “I would recommend this to other alumni as a great way to stay in touch [with the university and the students], and be affirmed by the next generation of agricultural leaders.”
