Alicia Kabat chose to major in Agricultural Education because of her love for teaching and her interest in the many aspects of the agriculture industry. “Knowing that each day I will be able to teach students life lessons and about the ag industry makes me so excited,” she said. Alicia grew up on her family’s swine, beef and grain farm. She is interested in animal science, agronomy, nutrition. Her favorite part about studying at the U of I what she calls “the family factor.” “It excites me to know that my professors are not only knowledgeable in their fields, but are also excited to teach me as much knowledge and skills for my future in teaching as I am ready to gain,” she said.
Alicia’s advice for students is: “Believe in yourself. Set a goal and go for it. Most of all, listen to your heart. Do what makes you happy in the sense of bettering yourself. It is important to stay grounded, but also at the same time, remember being here is a privilege. Don’t take these professors or the education for granted. Lastly, be kind. Everyone deserves kindness.”
