Interned at FLM+, Indianapolis, IN; Illinois Corn Marketing Board Ag in the Classroom Education Specialist Intern; Asurgo Intern (Summer 2015)
Abby says she has always known that she wanted to work in agriculture. From her involvement in Agricultural Education Club to Collegiate Farm Bureau, anyone can tell she has a passion for the industry. She says the Ag Leadership major was the perfect fit for her to combine her interest in education and passion for agriculture. One benefit from the Agricultural Leadership Education program is the required 400 hours of completed internship experience. She says it allows students to get real-world experience while monitoring and evaluating the position through assignments that ask for thoughtful reflection.
Outside of Ag Leadership Education, Abby serves the ExploreACES Steering Committee as the publicity co-chair, Ag Ed Club as President, and Collegiate Farm Bureau as Membership and Program Coordinator. She is also a member of 4-H House Cooperative Sorority. Through these experiences, she has been able to create “friendships and professional relationships that I know will last a lifetime.”
To students trying to choose a college, she gives this advice: “Choose the one that is best for YOU. While I understand that your family will be a part of the decision, choose the college that you are most comfortable with, the one that makes you happiest. It will really set the course for the rest of your life.”
